I don't know whether you saw the media recently, but two pretty gross headlines summarized what is often done in the name of "religion".
I am not interested in critiquing or considering these accusations, what I am interested in is the reality of what will happen as a result. At times like this the world will tend to take one large tar brush and paint every religious group with it. Whether Catholic or Protestant, we will all get lumped into the same category. We will hear those familiar comments of, "See where religion gets you? I knew it all along, you're all the same!" At times like this the faithful Church of Jesus Christ needs to remember one very important thing: The Lord still reigns.
Consider Psalm 2,
1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”
In this Psalm we see the world planning against the Lord, it isn't any different today is it? The world turns and attacks God and his Church. Yet the wonderful thing is, we have the great comfort of knowing that we are not fighting a losing battle. In fact it isn't a battle under question - from God's perspective - because God has already won.
The Lord sits in Heaven and laughs in derision as the petty world plays it's petty game. The world thinks they are very clever, they are slowly winning the battle against, "religious crazies". Yet the reality is, they are like children playing toy armies while the so called "religious crazies" are the ones who are winning. We sit on the side of the King of Heaven.
It is often at times like this that the old hymn comes into my mind,
Who is on the Lord’s side? Who will serve the King? Who will be His helpers, Other lives to bring? Who will leave the world’s side? Who will face the foe? Who is on the Lord’s side? Who for Him will go? By Thy grand redemption, By Thy grace divine, We are on the Lord’s side; Savior, we are Thine.
Fierce may be the conflict, Strong may be the foe, But the King’s own army None can overthrow. Round His standard ranging Victory is secure, For His truth unchanging Makes the triumph sure. By Thy grand redemption, By Thy grace divine, We are on the Lord’s side; Savior, we are Thine.
Chosen to be soldiers In an alien land: Chosen, called, and faithful, For our Captain’s band; In the service royal Let us not grow cold; Let us be right loyal, Noble, true, and bold. By Thy grand redemption, By Thy grace divine, We are on the Lord’s side; Savior, we are Thine.
May this be the song on our lips today!
